Author and Work Detail: This detailed octavo etching is from Jacob George Strutt Sylva Britannica; or, portraits of forest trees, distinguished for their antiquity, magnitude, or beauty. The work was published in London by Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown and Green in 1830. Each etching is mounted on India paper. Strutt was a landscape painter and etcher. The images are accurate representations of the trees, but also beautifully composed because of Strutt's landscape background.
